How each figure is worked out
- Protein per pack. Grams per serving times servings per pack. For a per 100 g label, grams per 100 g times the pack weight in grams, divided by 100.
- Cost per 10 g. Pack price divided by protein per pack, times 10.
- Cost per meal. Pack price divided by protein per pack, times your meal size in grams.
- Protein per 100 kcal. Protein divided by calories, times 100, on the same basis as the label.
The ranking uses the unrounded cost per gram, so two products that show the same price on screen can still sit one place apart. Exact matches share a rank. The full method, with a six-product pantry worked by hand, is in Protein per dollar: how to compare.

Frequently asked questions
Why compare cost per 10 g of protein?
Pack prices hide the amount of protein inside. Dividing the price by the grams of protein in the pack puts a 120 g tin, a dozen eggs and a 900 g bag on one scale. Ten grams keeps the figures readable, and the meal cost uses the protein size you set.
What if the label is per 100 g and not per serving?
Choose 'per 100 g' for that row and add the pack weight. The page multiplies the protein per 100 g by the pack weight in grams and divides by 100. Calories on the same row use the same basis. Use 'per 100 ml' with a ml or litre pack for liquids.
Why is a product listed as not ranked?
A product that prints 0 g of protein has no cost per gram of protein to work out, so it is listed below the ranking with a note. Rows with a missing or unreadable number are marked on the row instead.
How are ties shown?
Products with exactly the same cost per gram of protein share a rank and show it with an equals sign, such as =1, =1, 3. The next rank skips ahead by the number of products that tied.
Can I type prices with a comma?
Yes. 4,99 and 4.99 are read the same. Thousands separators work too: 1.299,50 and 1,299.50 both read as 1299.50. A lone comma followed by three digits in a price, such as 1,299, is read as thousands. In pack size and protein it is read as a decimal, so 1,250 kg is 1.25 kg. Each row shows how the numbers were read.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. The sums run in your browser and the numbers stay in this tab. The CSV is made on your device and saved to your downloads.
